About me
Hello students and families. I am so excited to begin a new school year learning with you. Missoula has been home since 2003. I came to Montana for the outdoor opportunities and to chase a dream of being a professional fly fishing guide. I completed a degree in Forestry and Recreation Management at the University of Montana while getting to live that dream. Years later, I returned to the University to earn a degree in Elementary Education. Now I have the best of both worlds. I teach during the school year and take people fly fishing in the summers. I also live on a small farm with my wife Jen and our daughter Brynn. We have a large vegetable garden, cut and bale our own hay, and raise sheep, ducks, chickens and geese. We enjoy camping at historical places in Montana, and learning about the way of life here long ago. Playing guitar is another huge part of my life. I love playing and singing with my students in class.
What you can expect in 7th/8th grade science this year
In 7th grade science we focus on the basics of chemistry and how the building blocks of life support the diversity of organisms on our planet. We cover elements, atoms, biomolecules, cell cycles, heredity, evolution, and Montana-specific ecology. In 8th grade we continue to build upon knowledge from 6th and 7th grade and focus on physics and earth/environmental science. We use the laws of physics to understand the formation of our universe, stars and our planet. Then, we focus on how energy moves through our planet and the role that humans play in that cycle. We cover newtons laws, stars and galaxies, plate tectonics, engineering practices, and humans and the environment.
